DIY Agility Ladder

Many fitness programs focus on the concept of agility. Can you move quickly and easily? One way you will see trainers test for this is by using an agility ladder. I’ve seen these ladders spread out on tracks, football and soccer fields and of course an exercise room. What normally happens when you aren’t so agile is that you can move the ladder, trip on the ladder and everyone has to stop while it’s spread back out and adjusted. The solution?

Special thanks to Chalk Monkey for this awesome idea!

Supplies Needed:

  1. Two rolls of duct tape. These gym owners have chosen a very nice shade of orange and zebra print. Feel free to mix it up and make it your own. Duct tape has come a long way from it’s silver only days.
  2. A pair of scissors.

As a side note the duct tape used in these photos are used on rubber flooring.

Instructions:

  1. Measure your ladder, the dimension for this ladder are 18.5 feet in length and the width of the outer edges are 19 inches. You can clearly see this outline with the orange duct tape.
  2. Now measure 15 inches from that first piece of orange tape on the end and begin sectioning off your ladder. The zebra print duct tape is 1.88 inches wide and is used for each “rung” of the ladder.

How easy is that?

PROS:

  • Safer method – no one gets the ladder caught on their shoes!
  • Customize – you get to bring your own flare to your ladder.
  • Cost – two rolls of duct tape are about $10 and the cheapest ladder I found online was $26.

CONS:

  • The ladder isn’t portable so it can’t travel with you. It’s only for people that work out in a specific area like a gym or garage.
  • How long it will last is unknown but really, who cares, it’s duct tape!
  • Besides rubber flooring, other surfaces are unknown. I’m not sure if it will hold on concrete.

Once your set up you can run your drills!
