What better place to #MakeYourMove than right at home? There’s no end to the options you have when working out at home. It’s on your schedule, and totally up to your mood. Whether you’re down for cardio or a strength session, there’s so many possibilities to choose from. Take a glance online and you can find countless videos for whatever suits you. Some days we feel like taking on a hardcore strength circuit, and other days we kinda just want to dance. At home, we can workout however we want and dance as hard as we can… and when we dance as hard as we can, it’s best that we do that in our home gym alone. Not a pretty sight.

So how do you make a home gym that’s the perfect haven for health and fitness? All it takes is a few essentials. We’ve compiled a list of the exercise accessories that we can’t do without, and having them is such a benefit to our fitness. Sure, you can curl cans of soup, but if you want to see real results at home you need to invest in quality equipment.

  1. Nike 13-in. Textured Foam Roller: While we definitely have a love/hate relationship with our foam roller (if you’ve done it before, you know what we’re talking about), it has quickly become one of our favorite home workout pieces. Rolling out our muscles helps so much with recovery and to keep everything flexible and loose. Soreness doesn’t stand a chance.

  2. Black Mountain Resistance Band: Resistance bands are sometimes viewed as something for an “easy” workout. Think again. The band pictures feels like you’re pulling 15-20 lbs, with other bands bringing resistance up to 50 lbs. Sound easy now? Plus, the extra stability required to use the bands works muscles all around, meaning when you do a curl with this band, you’re working all angles of that bicep. Check out the resistance band workout below!
  3. Sunny Health & Fitness 40-lb. Vinyl Dumbbell Set: Of course, we couldn’t forget our trusty dumbbell set! This one from Sunny Health has a variety of removable plates, which we highly recommend. At a fraction of the cost it would be to buy all different sets of single dumbbells, this one pair can take you from beginner to advanced just by adding a few plates.

  4. empower 2-in-1 Kettlebell: Kettlebell training is fantastic for so many reasons, the first of which being that you can do it basically anywhere. This one, like the dumbbells, allows you to add weight as you progress. Plus, it comes with a DVD to workout with.
  5. Gaiam 75cm Total Body Balance Ball Kit: Do some crunches on the floor, sure. Do some crunches on the stability ball, ABS ON FIRE. Having a good stability ball allows you to do some really fun and challenging moves, and this one comes with a DVD from the genius minds at Gaiam.

  6. Marcy Utility Flat Bench: A flat bench is the most basic piece of equipment for home workouts, but you’ll be surprised how often you use it. For chest presses and flyes, dumbbell rows, and step-ups, a bench is key. You can even use it for some plyometric work (bench jumps!). It’s a much-needed foundation for strength training.

With these exercise accessories, there’s nothing we can’t do. Plus, it’s only a few steps away – right in our own home! We love that we can get creative with our workouts at home, which is how we came up with this Upper Body Band Challenge. It’s a quick burner of a workout that engages every muscle in the upper body, so add it to your routine for some home gym fun!
